Excelitas Launches Next-Gen 905 nm Triple-Cavity Pulsed Laser Diodes

New ultra-robust, high-power laser diodes deliver enhanced beam quality, efficiency and reliability for LiDAR and ToF applications.

Excelitas®, the leading provider of advanced, life-enriching technologies that make a difference, serving global market leaders in the life sciences, advanced industrial, next-generation semiconductor and avionics sectors, announces the launch of its next-generation 905 nm TPG3 Series of Triple-Cavity Pulsed Laser Diodes in a TO-56 can. Designed for high-volume range finding and LiDAR systems, the new series delivers improved beam uniformity, higher reliability, and tailored performance options for diverse short- to long-range applications.

All four of the new diodes feature Excelitas’ triple-cavity architecture, offering consistent optical output, low voltage requirements, improved conversion efficiency, and rugged TO-can packaging for high-reliability use in harsh environments. The series spans a range of power outputs and emission areas to meet specific system needs:

  • TPG3AU1S1.5 (16 W / 6 A, 40×10 μm) – Ultra-compact, energy-efficient diode ideal for short-range Time-of-Flight, 3D sensing, and portable LiDAR systems requiring tight beam collimation and low thermal load.
  • TPG3AU1S03 (38 W / 13 A, 75×10 μm) – Mid-power option balancing output power and size, suited for industrial mid- to long-range ToF sensing and mobile mapping systems.
  • TPG3AU1S04 (54 W / 18 A, 100×10 μm) – High-efficiency diode with a moderate aperture, optimized for extended-range LiDAR and continuous-use sensing where thermal stability is critical.
  • TPG3AU1S09 (120 W / 40 A, 225×10 μm) – High-power solution for long-range industrial and automotive LiDAR, outdoor scanning, and mapping platforms requiring maximum reach and optical density.

“As demand grows for greater performance and reliability in LiDAR and sensing systems, we continue advancing our laser diode technology to meet it,” said Jens Krause, Program Manager at Excelitas. “This next-generation lineup gives customers more flexibility to optimize power, range and optical footprint for their unique application needs.

Excelitas InGaAs APD – High Gain, Low Noise

Excelitas Technologies has added a new option to the C30662EH/C30645EH 200 µm InGaAs APD, targeting eye-safe LiDAR at 1550 nm.

Excelitas InGaAs APDs provide high quantum efficiency (QE), high responsivity and low noise in the spectral range between 1000 nm and 1700 nm. The new C30645EH-137 features Excelitas’ cutting-edge low noise performance, together with a large dV > 4 V. dV defines the span of bias voltage from Gain 10 to Breakdown. With a large dV, customers can more easily operate the diodes at high gains > 10 over a broad temperature range while simultaneously keeping the noise low.

With their high bandwidth and low noise, the Excelitas C30645 Series helps OEMs and system manufacturers achieve cutting-edge noise specifications with optimal Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs). In particular, the new and enhanced low-noise option helps increase range and performance on LiDAR and eye-safe range-finding systems with the same laser output power. Coherent OTDR and fibre sensing applications like DTS or DAS benefit from enhanced sensitivity on longer ranges when detecting Raman-scattered signals.

Solid State Supplies Announces Availability of Excelitas PAX Pulsed Xenon Light Sources for Analytical Instrumentation

High Power Light Engines Generate Continuous Spectrum Light from UV to NIR with Stable Output and Long Life

Redditch, UK: Solid State Supplies today announced that it can now supply Pulsed Xenon Light Sources from Excelitas, including the new µPAX-3 precision-aligned 2 Watt module.

Excelitas PAX Light Sources are compact, integrated light source solutions containing a flash lamp, trigger circuit, and power supply in an EMI-suppressant enclosure. The PAX family of compact, precision-aligned Xenon light engine modules is the ideal choice for clinical diagnostic, in-vitro diagnostics, life sciences, drug discovery, proteomics, and analytical instrumentation applications.

The new μPAX-3 is the next generation 2-Watt Pulsed Xenon Light Source, with a smaller, more robust design that is 17% smaller than its µPAX-2 predecessor. State-of-the-art electronics and a precision aligned flashlamp are packaged into a single light source capable of providing broadband light in microsecond pulses with exceptional arc stability.

Lorna Lawson, Excelitas Product Manager at Solid State Supplies, noted: “We are excited to be adding the PAX light sources to our existing portfolio of Excelitas products. These miniaturised modules can offer significant advantages over LEDs in analytical instrumentation and similar applications, particularly with regard to the broad and continuous spectrum of the light output.”

“Excelitas takes pride in providing specialty lighting products and solutions that help to create a brighter, healthier and safer environment, so we are pleased to introduce µPAX-3 as an enhanced evolution of our µPAX-2 light source,” said Mark Gaston, Product Manager at Excelitas. “µPAX-3 features guaranteed stability < 1% and precision arc alignment for easy integration and improved overall performance – all in a more robust and compact design compared to our µPAX-2. The µPAX-3 is an ideal solution for product designers and engineers developing small form factor analytical systems for point of care and field use applications such as medical analytics, water quality monitoring, environmental analysis and more.”

Xenon flash lamps are confined arc flashlamps which produce microsecond to millisecond duration pulses of broadband light of high radiant intensities. Capable of operating at high repetition rates, these flashlamps generate light over a continuous spectrum from ultraviolet to infrared, at very high powers from 2W/25mJ to 60W/1J.

Key features of pulsed Xenon light sources include:

  • High Stability & Output Power
  • Inherently Pulsed μs pulses
  • High Stability: CV < 1% • Long Lifetime: > 1X 109 Flashes
  • Wide operating temperature
  • Wide continuous spectrum VUV through NIR

Applications include:

  • UV/VIS Spectrophotometer
  • Point-of-care Analytics
  • Environmental Analytics
  • Absorption Analysis
  • Fluorescence Trigger
  • Immunoassays
  • Microplate Readers
