As part of a health and safety-led upgrade, our client required a weather-proof monitor to be used on engineering trains – trains with one or more rail cars intended for internal non-revenue use. The unit was used to locate personnel and ensure they were aware of, or away from, any dangerous activity.
Requirements for the display included:
- The screen had to be sunlight readable and capable of withstanding an extremely wide temperature range (-30 to +85°C was achieved in this case)
- Zero condensation and a damage resistant screen assembly using an optically bonded protective window and anti-reflective film
- Custom interfacing and cable set
- Upgraded video electronics
- Wide input voltage range
Solsta (as Pacer at the time) supplied a complete rugged outdoor display, plus an additional slave monitor for in-cab use which shared some of the above features.
