The Engineering Design Show (EDS) 2024

Date/Time
Date(s) - 09/10/2024 - 10/10/2024
10:00 am - 4:00 pm

We’re excited by new technologies and the possibilities they open up, and every October EDS provides a fantastic opportunity to explore trends and new developments in our market and find out how they can help you to innovate – turning ideas into plans, and plans into products.

The technology demonstrators on our stand this year show how our leading edge suppliers are embracing the very latest in processing, connectivity, power and imaging, addressing applications as wide ranging as home automation, asset tracking, vibration sensing, air quality monitoring, thermal imaging, even a miniature endoscopic medical camera.

Our technology is at the heart of secure, connected IoT applications in all sectors and is enabling our customers to benefit from the rapid advance of machine learning and AI-powered solutions.

As always, our technical people will be on hand to discuss technology implementation and to guide and assist with new project definition and conclusion.

EDS takes place at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

9th October

11:15 Cutting the Cable for IoT (Digi) @ New Electronics Conference

Ron Singh, Senior Sales Director – EMEA, Digi

How to snip that wire and go wireless for IoT applications – this presentation will cover first principles of RF technologies, such as the trade-off of bandwidth/range/data-rate w.r.t regional regulations e.g. power-output, design considerations such as network topologies or communication protocols, and the available enablement tools to help accelerate design, deployment & management of your wireless IoT network – it’s not as daunting as you think to “cut that cable” and create a secure wireless system in an IoT-oriented world.

12:30 Why Must You Behave This Way: A Parent’s Guide to Understanding Clients’ True Needs @ Workshop Theatre 1

Barney Mitchell, Special Projects Group Manager, Solsta

One of the greatest challenges in technical selling is understanding your client’s true needs. Much like when your child asks, with the best of intentions, for their paint set, and the under-cautious will later find that it’s to fix a wedding photo that they spilled juice on, and that the results are not quite aligned with the child’s vision, establishing the underlying reason for a client request often helps to identify a very different, and far more effective solution. Taking a look at real world examples, I’ll attempt to convey Solsta’s approach to bridging the gap between specification and application.

10th October

12:30 AI/ML at the Tiny Edge: Unleashing New Possibilities (Silicon Labs) @ Workshop Theatre 1

Andy Halstead, Senior Field Applications Engineer, Silicon Labs

What is machine learning at the Tiny Edge? Why is it interesting? Where can it be used? Why can’t you afford to ignore it? All of these questions will be answered, as well as what Silicon Labs brings to the table to enable you to take your embedded applications to the next level.

13:30 Unlocking the Power of Asymmetric Multi- Processing with Microchip’s New RISC-V PIC64 (Microchip) @ Workshop Theatre 2

Valentina Fernandez Alanis, Principal Embedded Linux Engineer, Microchip

Join us as we uncover the power of deploying multiple operating systems, including Linux and Zephyr, in an asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP) setup on this advanced SoC. We’ll cover essential topics such as life cycle management, seamless inter-processor communication, and a hands-on implementation on the state-of-the-art Microchip PIC64GX MPU.

Get ready to dive into the future of industrial and automotive technology with our session on Heterogeneous Multiprocessor Systems-on-Chip! These cutting-edge systems are revolutionizing real-time performance and security like never before.

14:30 Designing the Optimal Switch for Your HV Battery @ Workshop Theatre 1

Keagan Simons, Product Commercial Support Specialist, Solsta (Durakool)

Keagan, our Specialist at Durakool, introduces the pivotal role of relays & contactors in electric vehicles (EVs) and battery storage systems. He explains the challenges posed by increasing battery voltages and currents, and the design features and innovative solutions provided by Durakool to address those challenges to meet customer demands for higher voltage and higher current switching, in smaller and lighter packaging.
